Echo sounders Praktik are designed to measure the depth of a water body and to search for promising places for fishing. The principle of operation of the Praktik sounder is based on the reception of ultrasonic waves sent by the sensor-transducer into the water after being reflected back from their bottom or other objects where echo pulses are reflected. The probing sound beam is in the form of a cone, the top of which is the sensor-transducer, which is usually located slightly below the water surface, and the bottom is the bottom of the body of water. If the ultrasonic wave encounters an obstacle on its way, part of it is reflected back to the sensor-transducer, and information about the presence of this object is displayed on the receiver's screen. The right hand side of the figures shows typical images displayed on the sonar screen and the information corresponding to these images in the water layer of the water body in summer and winter. It is very important to understand that the echo sounder does not represent a spatial (three-dimensional) image of the water layer on the screen, but only a projection on a vertical plane that passes through the center of the sounding cone. This creates the illusion that all objects detected by the beam are located under the sensor. Today's fishing is based on the principle that it is not so much about looking for fish, but rather about determining their usual places. In this activity, the most important thing is to understand the body of water and the fish that live in it, and the help of the echo sounder is invaluable when solving such a task. However, in order to fully understand the displayed image, it is necessary to gain some experience.
